Many Scanias are now also available with electric drive. Scania is touring Europe with a convoy of new electric trucks, giving customers the opportunity to take test drives.
Under the banner of Scania Test & Drive, six battery-electric trucks are featured, each with its own configuration. From urban distribution to heavier duty, customers can experience for themselves how well electric driving works in practice.
Scania presents the following electric vehicles:
– 23P B4x2NB – urban distribution, 400 kWh
– 36P XT B6x4NB – tipper, 400 kWh
– 40R A4x2NB – tractor with semi-trailer, 600 kWh
– 27L B6x2*4NB – refuse collection truck, 400 kWh
– 36R B6x2*4NB – hooklift, 600 kWh
– 40R A4x2NA – tractor, 600 kWh
The variety of trucks demonstrates the wide range of applications of electric drivetrains. Not only for urban distribution, but also for heavier work. “You only realize how powerful our electric trucks are when you experience it yourself. Quiet, clean, and powerful. Thanks to continuous innovations in battery technology, the range is constantly increasing. And because our trucks are built according to the well-known modular Scania system, each vehicle can be fully tailored to the specific needs and requirements of the customer,” says Jan de Vries, Director of Sales, Scania Netherlands.
Customers responded enthusiastically to the event. A transport operator who drove a 36R 6×2: “I really enjoy driving an electric Scania. I’m particularly impressed by the regenerative braking. For me, it’s important to experience that you can get just as much enjoyment out of a vehicle like this as you do with a large diesel. That’s invaluable to our drivers, who sometimes feel that their profession is changing and becoming less attractive due to the energy transition. This truck proves the opposite: it remains a challenging and interesting profession.”
Moreover, the driver’s role is becoming even more important in this new era. It requires expertise to get the most out of an electric truck and optimize its efficiency, range, and driving style. An electric Scania is not only sustainable, but also simply a cool machine that you can be proud to do your job with.”
A fellow entrepreneur adds: “What strikes me is the tranquility and comfort of the electric Scania. You hardly notice you’re on the road with such a heavy truck; the vehicle gives you complete control. We’ve been working on the sustainable transition for a few years now, although it’s not always easy in our work with a lot of special transport. Fuel consumption is high, and the range is a challenge. We’ve already ordered an electric Scania, in addition to the six diesel Scanias we currently operate.”
The six electric vehicles at the Test & Drive event are part of Scania’s European roadshow. Starting from Södertälje (Sweden), they’ll visit thirteen locations across Europe. With a total distance of over 20,000 kilometers and countless charging stops along the way, the journey represents the ultimate practical test of the possibilities and power of electric transport.
Electric transport isn’t just about the trucks themselves. Through Erinion, Scania helps customers with smart charging solutions. Scania Charging Access gives drivers access to a growing European network of public charging stations.
