Schmitz Cargobull S.CU dc90 — refrigeration unit for trailers

Schmitz Cargobull S.CU dc90 — refrigeration unit for trailers. More economical and efficient than its predecessor, the S.CU dc85.

The Schmitz Cargobull S.CU dc90 transport refrigeration unit is the successor to the S.CU dc85. This updated refrigeration unit delivers up to 6% more cooling capacity and reduces fuel consumption by up to 10%. It uses a more sustainable refrigerant, R454A. And like the dc85, it is prepared for e-PTO drive.

The new S.CU dc90 achieves higher cooling capacity with lower fuel consumption thanks to a newly developed, hermetically sealed 2-stage reciprocating compressor. This design reduces maintenance and repair costs in the refrigeration circuit. Furthermore, the lower noise level—especially during partial load—ensures greater comfort in the driver’s cab.

The S.CU dc90 continues to utilize the thermodynamically optimized Hatz common-rail diesel engine with an extended speed range. This delivers improved performance and can be used with the CO2-neutral fuel HVO100 (EN15940).

The EU is mandating a reduction in the use of refrigerants with high CO2 equivalents in the coming years (quota system). The quota system will lead to price increases for the current refrigerant R452A. This is not a blanket ban on R452A, but rather aims to reduce CO2 emissions.

By introducing R454A in the modular S.CU system, Schmitz Cargobull is responding to the tightened EU F-Gas Regulation and underscoring its commitment to low-emission transport solutions. R454A refrigerant offers a future-proof alternative and has a significantly lower direct GWP (Global Warming Potential) value, reducing the CO2 equivalent by 89% compared to R452A.
