Volvo Trucks offers its customers digital services. Vehicles are wirelessly connected to a data center that monitors the truck’s safety, productivity, and technical health.
Connectivity has become increasingly important in recent decades. Trucks are packed with electronic systems, maximum uptime is increasingly important, and operators are keen to ensure the safety and sustainability of transport. “With our connected services, we can support our customers and drivers. Think of optimizing uptime, reducing energy or fuel consumption, and making the entire truck operation more efficient and safe. We now have one million connected Volvo trucks on the road,” says Jan Hjelmgren, SVP Product Management at Volvo Trucks. “A truck is a working tool for transport companies and must keep moving to deliver value. Our services can truly contribute to this. In the long run, this contributes to the functioning of our entire society.”
Volvo Trucks offers connected services to customers in two main areas:
Uptime services use wireless connectivity to remotely monitor vehicles and predict potential malfunctions. Wear and tear on various components can be monitored, allowing timely maintenance scheduling. Uptime services also include over-the-air software updates for the trucks.
Productivity services focus on improving operations and reducing costs, for example, through fleet management systems and scheduling. The services also include driver solutions that can increase safety and improve fuel consumption, thereby increasing efficiency, as well as infotainment and comfort features.
Connected trucks also play a role in Volvo Trucks’ product development. The data obtained from the trucks is anonymized and analyzed, providing insights into vehicle and driver behavior. This information is valuable for further vehicle optimization.
