The New Generation DAF XG—like the XB, XD, and XF—will be available with 100% electric drive. This makes it possible to drive one of the most luxurious trucks completely emission-free.
The DAF XG and XG+ are popular, and you see them on the road in large numbers throughout Europe. DAF Trucks lagged behind the competition in offering electric trucks but is now catching up. This is good news for long-distance drivers. The range (up to 500 km with five battery packs) may be slightly less than that of competitors, the Volvo FH Electric and Mercedes-Benz e-Actros, but the batteries can be charged from 10% to 80% in less than an hour, making a day’s drive of 1000 km feasible.
The XG Electric and XG+ Electric are equipped with the most powerful PACCAR EX-D2
electric motor, with outputs ranging from 270 to 350 kW (370 to 480 hp) and 2400 Nm of torque. The drive unit consists of two separate electric motors combined with an integrated three-speed transmission. This transmission shifts imperceptibly, contributing to comfort. The power output is not excessive, but this will undoubtedly contribute to reduced fuel consumption. The aerodynamic cab (with a rounded windshield, side skirts, and camera mirrors) also contributes to this.
DAF has not yet announced the available wheelbases and weights. The Eindhoven team isn’t talking about a 6×2 electric tractor unit either, but given the demand, it will undoubtedly be available in the future. The DAF XG / XG+ Electric are available ex-factory as a 6×2 rigid chassis.
Just like its other battery-electric vehicles, DAF uses the latest generation of LFP batteries in the XG and XG+ Electric, which come with an 8-year warranty. The batteries are cobalt- and nickel-free, have high thermal stability, and can be charged up to 100% daily without affecting their lifespan.
DAF supports buyers of the new DAF XG and XG+ Electric with a complete package of services. This includes smart charging stations and energy storage systems from PACCAR Power Solutions, customized maintenance contracts from DAF MultiSupport, specific online fleet management services from PACCAR Connect, and flexible financing options through PACCAR Financial.
