DAF XD – chassis for fire fighting vehicle bodywork. Various axle configurations available.
The DAF XD, with diesel engines ranging from 230 to 450 hp, is a solid foundation for fire and rescue vehicles. The DAF XD excels in flexibility regarding bodywork options, reliability, and support from both the dealer network and bodywork companies.
The steering angle of 49 degrees makes the XD ideal for maneuvering, particularly during rescue operations in narrow streets. The spacious interior of the Day Cab variant of the XD models offers a volume of 6.3 mÂł and provides a good view of the surroundings.
The adjustable driver’s seat and steering wheel offer a good driving position and ensure safety, even during risky maneuvers. The cab is positioned relatively low on the chassis and has only two steps for entry and exit. The 10.8-liter PACCAR MX-11 engine (330 kW / 449 hp) is considered the best engine option, providing more than sufficient power for firefighting and rescue operations. Depending on the required payload capacity and the weight of the bodywork, the XD is also available as a 6×2 chassis. If the fire brigade requires high ground clearance, a DAF XDC is also suitable for this type of application.
The vehicle in the photo is a fire truck built by the German company Josef Lentner GmbH. This vehicle is in service at the ZF factory in Friedrichshafen. The bodywork features a spacious, integrated cab connected to the driver’s cab, a water cannon, a chassis-mounted winch, and a PTO-driven water pump. The storage space accommodates equipment and supplies.
