Ford F-MAX Low Liner 510 4×2. Tractor unit, 510 hp, fifth wheel height 98 – 112 cm.
The Ford F-MAX is pretty much the Harley-Davidson of trucks. Not the first choice for many entrepreneurs, not the lightest on the scales, old-school appearance with a tough look, but precisely because of those distinctive looks, it appeals to a target group of individualists. Ford Trucks is modernizing its trucks step by step, and with the introduction of the Gen 2 series (Generation 2) and subsequently the MCA (face-lift), a major leap forward has been taken.
The F-MAX shown in the photo here is configured as a Lowliner, making it suitable for transporting large-volume semi-trailers. The fifth wheel height is only 98 cm thanks to the low frame and 60-series tires. This truck is equipped with a great deal of comfort to cover long distances, even in bad weather conditions. It features large fuel tanks (510 liters on the right and 410 liters on the left), a limited-slip differential, a heated windshield, a refrigerator, 27 MC preparation, a heated driver’s seat, a sun visor, an electrically operated sun blind, rain and light sensors, automatic air conditioning and auxiliary heating, two fold-down beds, an air-suspended cab, a multimedia system, and the GSR 2 safety package including a reversing camera, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, traffic sign recognition, and even preparation for an alcohol interlock.
It is equipped with camera mirrors; note the striking position of the cameras. The driver monitors have a brilliant display. The Ford F-MAX comes standard with interior lighting in adjustable colors. Truly a driver’s truck for long distances.
The tare weight of this Ford Lowliner is 8,433 kg, and with a GVW of 19 tons, it is allowed to carry 10,567 kg on the fifth wheel. The fifth wheel on this Lowliner is adjustable so that it can also be used with standard semi-trailers (option). The 12.7-liter Ford Ecotorq diesel produces 510 hp and 2,600 Nm. It is compatible with 100% HVO.
A notable feature is the smartphone app for fleet owners, which allows you as the owner to remotely read essential information from the truck—not only position but also fuel level, AdBlue level, and fuel consumption. From the app, you can reduce the engine power from 510 to 460 hp (while maintaining torque). We have not yet encountered this standard feature on other truck brands.
With the F-MAX, Ford Trucks aims to have a market share of 1.2% in the 300-400 kW diesel tractor segment in the Netherlands by 2026, which translates to about 60 tractors sold per year. The goal of the Dutch sales organization is to grow to a 5% market share in the coming years.
