Contitech (part of Continental) is closing the factory in Stolzenau where luggage screens are produced. 110 employees will lose their jobs. Continental is also moving the production of air springs from Hannover to Jicin (Czech Republic). This will cost 126 jobs.
Continental is also closing four other factories: in Bad Blankenburg, Moers, Geithain and Frohburg. These are used to make products for other industries, including industrial conveyor belts.
A total of 580 jobs are expected to disappear, much to the displeasure of the unions. In Germany, Contitech has 22 locations with a total of around 11,000 employees. Worldwide, the business unit has around 39,000 employees in 37 countries.
Other manufacturers are also carrying out reorganisations. Forvia is cutting up to 10,000 jobs in Europe, 4,700 jobs are lost at Schaeffler and 14,000 jobs at ZF Friedrichshafen.
