Mobile crane, maximum lifting capacity 450 tons, capacity >162 tonmeters.
There are mobile cranes, and then there’s the Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1. This powerhouse can handle extreme lifting tasks. Hanging a balcony on a high-rise building? No problem. Installing an air conditioning unit 100 meters high? Consider it done. With a reach of 108 meters and a residual capacity of 1.5 tons, this is one of the strongest cranes you can drive on public roads and is therefore immediately ready for use with minimal preparation. The maximum lifting capacity (at a reach of 3 meters) is even 450 tons, which is more than four times its own weight. As nominal capacity we mention 162 tonmeters, which is the value at the maximum extension of the 7-stage mast.
This Liebherr is mounted on an eight-axle chassis with 25-inch wheels. These axles are all electronically steered and have a legal load capacity of 12 tons each. The crane is 300 cm wide, meaning it’s just barely legal on public roads. With a exemption permit, of course.
The driver sits low to the ground, under the boom. This is unavoidable with this type of crane. To maneuver the 96-ton vehicle smoothly through traffic, it features a 16-liter, eight-cylinder diesel engine with an output of 505 kW (682 hp) and 3068 Nm of torque. Leaving home for work is a pleasure for him.
