In an effort to turn around decreasing sales, Mercedes-Benz will also sell diesel engines in electric vans

The Van-department of Mercedes-Benz (Sprinter, Vito, Citan, and electric equivalents) has suffered from less sales in 2024. The manufacturer sold 405610 vehicles (2023: 447790) of which 19516 (2023: 22666) with electric drivetrain. The total revenue of the Van division was 19.3 billion euro (2023: 20.3 billion) and earnings 2,8 billion euros (2023: 3,1 billion).

The whole Mercedes-Benz Group is going through a difficult time, with net profits going down from 14.5 billion euros in 2023 to 10.4 billion euros in 2024.

Nevertheless, the company stays moderately positive, and continues to invest in new vehicles, partly electric-drive and partly internal-combustion-drive (petrol and diesel). Even the vans that were designed as electric, like the EQV, will become available with diesel engines. Mercedes-Benz describes this as “expand the modular and scalable van architecture”.
