Mercedes-Benz is stopping production of its smallest van, the Citan. This was reported by the trade journal Automotive. Mercedes wants to focus on the medium-sized and large segments in vans.
The Citan was introduced in 2012, with the mantra that Mercedes-Benz wanted to be able to offer a means of transport in every weight class. The body of the Citan, available in two lengths (previously in three), comes from the Renault Kangoo, the underlying technology was Mercedes-Benz. An electric version was also introduced in 2023. The Citan is seen as a good and reliable product, but it never matched the sales success of the Kangoo.
The Renault Kangoo and its Nissan counterpart Townstar will remain in production. (April 14, 2025)
