Tesla’s Autopilot system should never have been approved for use in Europe. This was reported by the television program Zembla (Netherlands). In 2015, the system was approved in the EU thanks to approval by the RDW (Dutch government agency for vehicle admissions). According to a whistleblower and approval authorities in other EU countries, this was unjustified. RDW itself calls it correct. Various sources speak of “creative interpretation of the rules”.
The use of Autopilot has led to hundreds of serious accidents in both America and Europe because drivers believed the system was fully autonomous. (May 30, 2025)
