New refrigeration units for Thermo King diesel trucks are now certified for use with more sustainable fuel options (EN 14214 standard B100 FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl Esters) biofuel). In 2021, Thermo King already validated fossil-free diesel based on Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) as an acceptable fuel.
B100, typically made from rapeseed oil, can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 60% and particulate matter emissions by up to 78% over the refrigeration unit’s lifecycle. The refrigeration system must be prepared for use with this biofuel.
