The Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo is now available with a long wheelbase. Although the ID. Buzz L2 was unveiled to the public in 2024, it is finally available to order. The increase in cargo space isn’t exactly spectacular, however: it adds 25 cm. This brings the load length to 245 cm, allowing you to place two Euro pallets lengthwise, one behind the other.
In terms of design, the ID. Buzz resembles the VW Transporter, but its dimensions place it closer to the Caddy. So, consider how much space you actually need before buying. The payload capacity isn’t spectacular either: a maximum of 690 kg (depending on the version), compared to 750 kg for the L1. The electric motor’s power output, on the other hand, is immense: 210 kW (286 hp), or even 250 kW (340 hp) for the 4×4 version. We remain puzzled as to why such extreme power is needed for a city delivery van.
Useful features include the standard second sliding side door and the option of hinged rear doors instead of a tailgate.
All ID. Buzz versions now come with an improved Connected Travel Assist system featuring automatic traffic light recognition, allowing the vehicle to stop automatically at red lights. There is also a new “one-pedal” mode that lets you drive without using the brake pedal.
Another new feature is the ability to use the battery as a power source (max. 2,000 W)—for instance, to power an electric heater at home or a power drill while working on a job.
