Volvo FM Electric 6×2 rigid chassis. Truck chassis, electric drive, 6×2 with tag axle, range up to 300 km.
We’ve already described the Volvo FM Electric as a tractor unit. Now it’s the turn of the rigid chassis. The photos in this article show it as a 6×2 (with a liftable tag axle), and given its kerb weight, that’s a logical choice. But it’s also available as a 4×2, 6×4, 8×2, and 8×4 chassis thanks to Volvo Trucks’ modular design system.
The FM Electric chassis has a choice of two or three parallel-connected electric motors. They deliver a max. power output of 490 kW / 666 hp. The driver will hardly ever need to use that power, and with a normal driving style and the installation of six battery packs (540 kWh in total), this truck could travel 300 km on a single charge. Charging then takes two hours at a fast charger (250 kW DC) or 9.5 hours at a slow charger (43 kW AC).
Cab options include a day cab (normal height or low), comfortcab (long day cab) or a sleeper cab (normal height, low, or Globetrotter). The chassis can be configured to your specifications and is available in various lengths. The FM Electric has three types of power take-offs available: mechanical, transmission-driven, and electric. Air suspension is standard on all axles.
Volvo always delivers this electric truck with a Gold Service contract. This allows the dealer to handle maintenance and various signaling functions for the user, such as maintenance scheduling and battery monitoring. Via Volvo Connect, the user has access to features such as route and charge planning, current energy status, and the vehicle’s current location.
