This heavyweight is a Volvo FH Electric 8×4. It’s used by a company that installs concrete floors. The body incorporates tanks and a mixer, allowing this truck to produce concrete on-site. Due to the high weights, the fleet owner opted for a tridem rear axle with a widespread option. The last axle is 180 cm behind axle 3, allowing it to carry 10 tons. This rear axle is a liftable steered axle. This axle configuration also supports the large rear overhang that houses the concrete unloading system.
At the front, we see the (now familiar) Volvo Aero Globetrotter cab with a streamlined nose, with plenty of luxury for personnel. Also on board is the Volvo Dynamic Steering system, which controls the position of the front wheels using computer control. The rear view mirrors have been replaced by cameras.
This Volvo FH Electric 8×4 is powered by three electric motors with a combined output of 660 hp / 490 kW and 2400 Nm of torque. The required electrical energy is stored in six cube-shaped batteries mounted on the chassis. These batteries are maintained at the correct temperature by a cooling/heating system. Charging these batteries can be done via an AC connection (43 kW) or a DC station with a maximum output of 250 kW. Remarkably, charging can take place while the mixing system is in operation.
The twelve-speed I-Shift gearbox is coupled to a mechanical power take-off (325 Nm). There is also an electric power take-off from the drive battery, with a voltage of 600V and an output of 41 kW.
