Rigid chassis with electric drive. We previously saw this Volvo FM as a tractor unit and as a 6×2 chassis. Here it is as a two-axle chassis. The vehicle in the photo is in use at Pothuizen Transport and was delivered by Volvo dealer Van Dijk Trucks.
This Volvo FM Electric has two electric motors mounted under the cab, which together produce 332 kW / 450 hp. More than enough for normal use. If desired, a third electric motor can be installed, increasing the power to 490 kW / 666 hp. This third motor is required when towing a trailer.
Six battery packs are attached to the chassis, which together can store 540 kWh. This would provide for a range of approximately 300 km, according to Volvo Trucks Netherlands. Charging takes two hours at a fast charger (250 kW DC) or 9.5 hours at a slow charger (43 kW AC).
The owner of the truck in the photo, Pothuizen Transport from Culemborg (NL), opted for a 560 cm wheelbase. Complete with the furniture box, the total length is 994 cm. The curb weight (including the body) is 13,525 kg. Thanks to a 9-ton front axle, the net payload is 6,975 kg.
Volvo always delivers this electric truck with a Gold Service contract. This allows the dealer to handle maintenance and various alerting functions for the user, such as maintenance scheduling and battery monitoring. Via Volvo Connect, the user has access to functions such as route and charge planning, current energy status, and the vehicle’s current location.
