Zepp receives homologation for hydrogen-powered truck. Tractor unit available as 4×2 and 6×2.
Zepp Solutions, based in Delft, has received European homologation for its tractor unit, the Zepp Europa. The truck will be presented on December 4, 2025, in Amersfoort. This homologation means that the vehicle is approved for registration and can be licensed anywhere in the EU.
The Zepp Europa was first presented in Hannover in September 2024 and was tested for a year at Vos Transport. The truck can store 58 kg of hydrogen in tanks mounted behind the cab. This hydrogen is converted into electricity while driving, without any emissions. The “waste product” of this process is water (H2O).
The Zepp Europa has a maximum gross train weight of 50 tons and can tow standard and high-volume 13.60 m trailers. A low-chassis version is available for high-volume transport. A 6×2 tractor unit will also be available. Prices have not yet been announced. Zepp emphasizes that there are subsidy programs available for the purchase of hydrogen vehicles.
The truck has a Mercedes-Benz Actros chassis and a range of 700 km. One obstacle to success will be the limited number of hydrogen fueling stations in Europe.
Zepp Solutions is not only developing hydrogen-powered trucks but instead focusing on generators that convert hydrogen into electricity. These generators can then be used not only in trucks but also in ships, terminal tractors, and emergency power systems.
