The 2014 Volkswagen Polo Van is getting a successor in the form of the VW ID.Polo toCargo. The new electric Polo symbolizes Volkswagen’s shift in strategy back to familiar model names and designs, albeit with an electric powertrain.
The transformation into the toCargo version is achieved by installing a flat plywood load floor over the folded-down rear seats. The result is a cargo area 133 cm long and 100 cm wide, with a low load height, no partition, and no tie-down points. The original cargo space remains accessible via a hatch, allowing items to be stored out of sight. The load floor is bolted in place, so the toCargo cannot be quickly converted back into a passenger car.
Buyers can choose from three powertrain outputs (85 to 155 kW) and two battery packs (37 or 52 kWh). The range of the Polo toCargo with the larger battery is 454 km. Charging is handled via a DC connection ranging from 88 to 105 kW. The ID.Polo is capable of towing a trailer weighing between 500 and 1,200 kg, depending on the version.
