BERGERecotrail ecoCHAMP LTO — lightweight curtain-sided trailer with short wheelbase. Lightweight trailer with high load capacity and reduced nose weight.
The lightweight BERGERecotrail ecoCHAMP curtain-sided trailer (tare weight from 4700 kg) is now also available with a short wheelbase (574 cm), making it possible to transport heavy loads with tractors with a low fifth-wheel load capacity. BERGERecotrail is specifically targeting owners of electric tractors. This type of tractor often has a lower maximum fifth-wheel load than diesel tractors.
Lightweight trailers play an important role because they can optimise the load capacity and thus enable a higher load capacity. The unladen weight of the ecoCHAMP LTO is approximately 1500 kg less than other trailers of this type. Like all BERGERecotrail vehicles, it is manufactured with a special design, in which holes in the shape of the so-called Reuleaux triangle (a triangle with curved sides) are cut into the longitudinal beams (see photo). This method of saving weight makes it possible to remove a lot of material from the L-beam without adversely affecting its strength and stability.
The ecoCHAMP LTO is certified for the transport of beverages (a single layer of beverage crates on pallets plus barrels) and general cargo according to DIN EN 12642 Code XL, DIN EN 12195-1 and VDI 2700 for maximum payload. The trailer can optionally be equipped with a Power Curtain from Schmitz Cargobull. The required rigidity (according to DIN EN 12642 Code XL) is achieved without support slats thanks to vertical and horizontal reinforcements and an anti-theft security fabric incorporated into the tarpaulin.
Since the beginning of 2024, hauliers have been able to purchase BERGERecotrail trailers through the Schmitz Cargobull sales network. Schmitz also offers access to the supply of spare parts via the Schmitz Cargobull Service Partner network and the use of additional Schmitz Cargobull services, such as financing, insurance and use of TrailerConnect telematics, including a tire pressure monitoring system with automatic location function.
