Ford Ranger Super Duty

Ford Ranger Super Duty. Pickup, heavy-duty chassis, C driving license, payload 1982 kg.

Ford is introducing a heavy-duty version of the Ranger Pickup, the heaviest and strongest Ranger ever to date. This special model is intended for companies in forestry, infrastructure, emergency services, law enforcement, and defense. With generous ground clearance and wading depth, the Ford Ranger Super Duty also offers excellent off-road capabilities. It will be available not only as a complete pickup but also as a chassis-cab for the installation of special cargo beds.

A few figures: payload 1982 kg, GVW 4500 kg, maximum towing capacity 4500 kg, maximum train weight 8000 kg. Compared to the best-performing current Ranger, the Super Duty offers nearly double the payload and an extra 1000 kg towing capacity. The Super Duty requires a C driving licence and the installation of a toll transponder when using Dutch motorways after July 1, 2026. Optionally, the Ranger Super Duty can be downgraded to 3,500 kg, in which case the payload capacity is reduced to 982 kg.

The newly designed chassis construction of the Ranger Super Duty provides a ground clearance of up to 299 mm, with an approach angle of up to 36°, a departure angle of up to 29°, and a breakover angle of 26°. The wading depth has also been increased to 850 mm, a value previously only achieved by the Ranger Raptor.

The dimensions of the chassis are the same as those of the standard Ford Ranger, allowing drivers to drive on European roads without problems. The new, thicker frame was developed for the Super Duty. The suspension points, bed mounting points, and tow hitch construction have also been reinforced. Other drivetrain features include reinforced front and rear driveshafts, a stronger rear differential, wheel hubs with eight wheel bolts, larger bolts, and torque indicators.

Pre-wired auxiliary switches with a capacity of 60A are present in the cabin. This allows buyers to have additional electrical equipment installed without the time, cost, and installation space normally required for such modifications.

Under the hood of the Ranger Super Duty lies Ford’s 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel, producing 209 hp and 600 Nm. The engine complies with Euro 6.2 regulations. There are six selectable driving modes — Normal, Eco, Tow/Haul, Mud/Ruts, Sand, and Rock Crawl.

This vehicle is equipped with an automatic four-wheel drive system with intelligent torque distribution, which directs power to the wheel with the most grip for better traction and control. Also standard is a new limited-slip differential in the front axle, which works in conjunction with the limited-slip differential at the rear. A transfer case facilitates switching between high and low gearing.

Smart Hitch helps customers gain better insight into the load on the hitch ball and how the trailer load can be adjusted for optimal weight distribution. Thanks to sensors in the suspension on all four wheels, the Onboard Scales can monitor payload in real time as cargo is added.

Just like with the Ranger, towing a trailer is also made easier with Pro Trailer Backup Assist. This system uses sensors to track the trailer’s position and allows drivers to steer while reversing via a rotary knob on the center console. Trail Turn Assist can brake the inner rear wheel at low speeds and large steering angles to reduce the turning circle. Trail Control acts as a type of cruise control for off-road driving and maintains a constant low speed, allowing the driver to focus entirely on steering around obstacles.

The Ford Ranger Super Duty features a built-in modem that provides connectivity on the go, so teams can stay in touch with both the customer and the job. The modem also supports live navigation and updates.
