Paccar Parts — Flexible solar panels for truck and trailer roofs. Solar panel, flexible, 110 x 30 x 0.3 cm (55 Wp) / 110 x 60 x 0.3 cm (110 Wp).
Paccar Parts now supplies thin, flexible solar panels that can be mounted on the roof of virtually any cabin, trailer and body. The electrical energy that this produces ensures a lower load on the alternator and therefore lowers fuel consumption.
The solar panels are available in two sizes: 110 x 30 x 0.3 cm (700 grams and delivers 55 Wp* via 16 cells) and 110 x 60 x 0.3 cm (1.3 kilos, 32 cells, delivers 110 Wp*). The panels are flexible enough to follow the curves of a roof or spoiler. No drilling is required for mounting: the panels have adhesive strips with which they are attached to the bodywork. Screwing is possible, but not recommended. No holes are needed for the wiring either.
The generated energy is fed to the battery via a supplied inverter. There it is stored or used directly for use in the cabin.
At least 1 large and 1 small solar panel can be placed on almost every cabin roof. More is often also possible. A multiple can be mounted on trailers and superstructures with a fixed, hard top.
By using the panels, it is less often – or even not at all – necessary to start the engine when using accessories in parking spaces. This saves fuel, CO2 emissions and limits wear and tear on, for example, the alternator and battery. The truck solar panels are now available from all DAF dealers and service points, who will mount and connect the strips if desired. The most common set will cost around 1100 euros. These panels are only available in after-sales. Factory mounting is not possible.
*) Wp stands for Watt peak and indicates how much power a solar panel generates at most. 165 Wp produces the equivalent of about 135 Watts of power. This is more than enough for the daily use of a coffee maker, a microwave or a laptop, for example.
