The e-Trailer – by Trailer Dynamics and Krone – successfully completes test laps at the Nürburgring

Trailer Dynamics’ and Krone’s E-Trailer successfully completed test laps at the Nürburgring. Driving style proves crucial during the Truck Efficiency Run.

The e-Trailer, developed by Trailer Dynamics in collaboration with Krone Trailer, successfully participated in the Truck Efficiency Run, held at the Nürburgring. On this renowned racetrack, professional drivers competed for the Krone Efficiency Trophy with three drive types: diesel, LNG, and electric. It also became clear that fuel consumption is highly dependent on driving style.

The e-Trailer is a unique example in this field. This trailer has a driven center axle and is equipped with a frame-mounted drive battery, in this case with a capacity of 551 kWh. Thanks to the trailer’s thrust, the tractor unit consumes significantly less fuel than with a conventional trailer. On average, this represents a 40% fuel saving. The exact savings depend on topography, load weight, route length, and driving style. The battery can be charged in various ways: via a charging station, through regenerative braking, or even with solar panels on the roof. This demonstrates that intelligent technology can contribute to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions in transport.

Simon Richenhagen, Head of Marketing at Krone Trailer: “With the Efficiency Run, we demonstrate how transport efficiency can be measured under real-world conditions – and how crucial the person behind the wheel is. After all, it’s the professional drivers who drive the vehicles every day and make all the difference with their driving style. Technology alone isn’t enough – it only reaches its full potential in experienced hands. The positive feedback confirms that this topic is stirring up the sector at just the right time.”

The winning drivers in the various categories: Colin Guppy (diesel truck, Hövelmann Logistik GmbH & Co. KG), Lukasz Marszal (LNG truck, Reinert Logistics GmbH & Co. KG), and Rolf Isermann (electric truck, Duvenbeck GmbH & Co. KG).
