For use in construction and other heavy-duty applications requiring dual-drive, DAF also manufactures the XD, XF, XG, and XG+ Electric as a 6×4 (FAT). With a 21-ton tandem axle (with single or hub reduction, optional leaf or air suspension) or the lighter 19-ton rear axle assembly. The XF cab is most commonly used on this chassis, but the XD or XG cab are also possible. The XG+ cab is also available, but will be rare.
The XD and XF Electric 6×4 are also available in a high-ground-clearance version, known as the XDC and XFC (C = Construction). Distinguishing features of the Construction include 40 cm ground clearance, a 25-degree approach angle, a sturdier bumper, a radiator guard, recessed lighting, and an optional flexible lower step.
The zero-emission FAT and FAW rigid chassis can be equipped with either the PACCAR EX-D1 or PACCAR EX-D2 electric motors. There is a choice of three, four, or five battery packs. These midship-mounted power sources are available with outputs ranging from 170 kW (230 hp) to 350 kW (480 hp) and deliver maximum torque of 1,500 Nm and 2,400 Nm, respectively. The newly developed 3-speed direct-drive transmission with planetary gear sets is lightweight, highly efficient, and makes gear changes imperceptible. The engine brake switch on the steering wheel allows you to engage one-pedal drive and select the desired amount of braking power (33, 66, or 100% of the total braking power).
