DAF XB – 4×2 chassis for urban use

With the XB chassis, DAF offers a versatile commercial vehicle for use in the city center. Whether for distribution, street cleaning, grounds maintenance, or construction work, the DAF XB is particularly popular where space is limited and high maneuverability (the XB’s steering angle is a maximum of 53 degrees) is essential. The XB (formerly known as DAF LF) combines compact dimensions, good maneuverability, and reliable performance in a compact package.

The DAF XB is available as a 4×2 chassis in weight classes of 7.5, 12, 16, and 18 tonnes. The short cab of the new XB enables optimal load lengths, which offers a clear advantage in this segment: the series achieves a high payload and, with many vehicle options, has a favorable total weight-to-payload ratio. The XB is available with two diesel engines: the PACCAR PX-5 four-cylinder with a displacement of 4.5 liters and the PX-7 six-cylinder with a displacement of 6.7 liters. Power output ranges from 170 to 310 hp. Combined with the dynamic drivetrain and the PowerLine automatic transmission, the XB offers a high level of driving comfort. The range is complemented by fully electric variants with 120 or 190 kW (only for GVWs of 12, 16, or 28 tonnes).

The XB features a flat chassis with a 50 mm bolt pattern. This allows for a wide range of variants—not just rigid trucks but also, for example, sweepers or tippers. Various wheelbases, as well as options for roof spoilers and side fenders, improve aerodynamics.

As with the other New Generation series, DAF places great emphasis on a comprehensive safety concept for the new XB. The equipment is designed to meet both customer requirements and EU safety regulations. Available assistance systems include DAF Drowsiness Detection, Hill Start Assist, DAF Side and Turn Assist for blind spot detection, the Event Data Recorder, and the Digital In-Dash Panel (DIP). In terms of direct visibility, slim mirrors, an optional sidewalk window, and, depending on the configuration, a rating of up to 3 stars according to the London Direct Vision Standard contribute to safety in city traffic.

The XB is also available as the XBC – the C stands for Construction. This 18-ton 4×2 chassis features a raised cab, extra ground clearance, and a wider approach angle. It has a full-width steel bumper and a radiator guard.
