Offering visitors the opportunity to experience commercial vehicles for themselves – that is once again the promise behind the Experience Offering at IAA TRANSPORTATION (September 15-20, Messe Hannover). In total, 84 vehicles from 17 brands are available for test drives. These are mostly battery-electric and hydrogen trucks. The program also includes a few diesel vehicles and some autonomous trucks. Booking a test drive is done through the exhibitors themselves: DAF, Daimler Truck, Ford, Ford Trucks, Junge Fahrzeugbau, KIA, Maxus, MAN, Phinia, SANY Truck, Renault Trucks, Scania, Superpanther, Tesla, Volkswagen, Volta Trucks, and Volvo Trucks.
“The test drives give IAA TRANSPORTATION visitors a direct experience of just how innovative and capable the commercial vehicle industry already is today. The enormous diversity of vehicles is impressive: manufacturers and suppliers have done their homework and are deploying technologies for climate-neutral, digital mobility,” says JĂĽrgen Mindel, Director of the organizer. VDA.
At the same time, Mindel notes that not all the conditions are in place to get these vehicles on the road: “It is now up to policymakers to create the right conditions for the growth of the market for electric and hydrogen vehicles for commercial use. This includes high-capacity electricity grids, an extensive network for charging and refueling hydrogen, and a rapid revision of COâ‚‚ regulations for heavy commercial vehicles.”
IAA TRANSPORTATION features three departure points spread across the exhibition grounds. Manufacturers MAN and Volvo Trucks offer test drives directly from their stands. Visitors can test vehicles, including the Volvo FH Aero with a hydrogen combustion engine and the fully electric FH Aero Electric Long Range. In halls 14/15, there is a departure station for a total of 14 exhibitors, featuring vehicles such as a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter equipped with the BE-Combi system and the DAF XG Electric. For test drives outside the exhibition grounds, Daimler Truck has set up special departure points in halls 19/20.
There are also demonstrations of vehicles with forward-looking features. technology, such as driver assistance systems and autonomous driving. Five exhibitors – Aptiv, Brightskies, MicroVision, Neolix, and Stellantis – are participating. Along the Expo Allee, visitors can view the latest developments in automated driving. Robot delivery vans without a driver’s cab are also being shown for the first time. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience the technologies from the passenger seat.
Those interested can request their desired demonstration directly at the exhibitors’ stands. Staff will then guide them to the relevant vehicles.
