Silvasti Transport A/S (Fjerritslev, DK) is one of the first users of the XXL version of Nooteboom’s Mega Windmill Trailer (MWT). The company is very enthusiastic about it.
Director Ville Silvasti: “Subtle improvements result in a big leap forward. The improvements are primarily structural in nature, and that is actually only positive. We already had extensive experience with the earlier MWT models, and over the years we have purchased at least 25 of them. As a result, our drivers were able to get started with the new MWT-XXL very easily.” “Over the years, we have worked with various trailer types and brands. During evaluations, we found that the basic idea behind the Nooteboom design is particularly clever: the frame is stable and very well thought out. When Nooteboom introduced the MWT‑XXL, with those significant improvements, particularly regarding the stability of the trailing dolly, it turned out to be exactly what we were looking for.”
“Initially, we considered hydraulic suspension,” he adds, “but after testing the MWT XXL, we concluded that the air suspension performs excellently, especially in combination with the improvements made to the trailing dolly.”
Silvasti is deploying the Nooteboom MWT‑XXL for a project in Lithuania, transporting wind tower sections with an outer diameter of 6.3 meters. “That is almost the maximum of what is possible,” says Silvasti, “but again: not a single complaint from the driver. Thanks to the extra stability of the new MWT‑XXL, our drivers hardly notice any difference when transporting towers with a diameter of 4.5 or 6.5 meters. The biggest advantages are the stability, the low tare weight, and the low maintenance costs. That combination is quite unique at the moment.”
“Nooteboom uses a 3-point clamping system, whereas other brands typically use a 4-point system. Our drivers have tested both systems, and with a 4-point clamp, you have to work much more precisely when coupling to the tower. The 3-point clamp, on the other hand, automatically finds the right position; it just fits.”
Silvasti provides Nooteboom with valuable, practical feedback from daily operations, feedback that Nooteboom has already utilized to further refine and improve the MWT‑XXL. In exceptional transport, we constantly operate at the limits of what is possible. That is why it is essential to be able to rely on skilled drivers and the best possible trailer technology. Even the smallest malfunction can have major consequences. For us, stability and simplicity in design are decisive.
