The successor to the Mercedes-Benz Vito is doing test drives in Lapland

Mercedes-Benz is almost finished with the development of its new midsize van (also MPV), the successor to the Vito, so to speak. At the moment, prototypes are being tested in northern Sweden under icy and slippery conditions. Not only driving but also cold starting and charging are being tested. The manufacturer has revealed some photos and details of this van, which will be in the showroom in 2026.

The new (as yet unnamed) model is the first to be built on Mercedes-Benz’s Van Electric Architecture (VAN.EA). This means that the vehicle has been designed from the ground up as an electric vehicle. Due to the disappointing sales of electric cars, Mercedes has decided to also make this van available with combustion engines (diesel and petrol). They have also attached a label to this: VAN.CA or Van Combustion Architecture.

Mercedes-Benz currently has an electric midsize MPV and van – the EQV and the eVito – but these models are derived from models with combustion engines.

There are no technical specifications for the model yet. Mercedes does say that this Van will be available with four-wheel steering and four-wheel drive (4MATIC).
