Iveco is taking part in the Tour d’Europe 2025, an initiative involving the European automotive sector. The aim is to raise awareness of the use of renewable fuels to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, as set out in the European Green Deal.
Iveco is taking part in the tour – which started in Madrid in March – with a new S-Way LNG tractor powered by biomethane. The company is actively demonstrating that renewable gas effectively reduces CO₂ emissions and offers a concrete, scalable solution for fossil-free road freight transport. Thanks to a European network of filling stations with around 800 stations, international routes can already be covered with a truck running exclusively on bio-LNG. The project, which involves commercial vehicles running on biomethane, HVO and bioethanol, will operate throughout Europe until June.
The event will test Bosch’s Digital Fuel Twin approach, a solution that enables digital traceability of renewable fuels and CO2 emissions throughout the supply chain via data exchange between vehicle and fuel station.
“By participating in the Tour d’Europe, we want to demonstrate that biomethane is a viable, turnkey solution for long-haul transport – with uncompromising performance, competitive total cost of ownership and a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions,” said Giandomenico Fioretti, Head of Business Development Alternative Drives at IVECO.
Produced from organic waste and residues, biomethane is a renewable and sustainable fuel that converts waste into clean energy. Biomethane is compatible with the existing LNG infrastructure in Europe and can be used immediately. IVECO is working with European fuel station operators. The Iveco Group has been a pioneer in alternative drivelines for more than 20 years – from the first gas vehicles to today’s LNG/CNG and Bio-LNG/CNG vehicles. This makes IVECO a forerunner in the field of sustainable road freight transport and it is taking on the challenges of the transition to a new drive system.
