Renault Trucks E-Tech T 585 / T780 — 6×2 tractor unit — electric drive, range up to 460 / 600 km.
Renault Trucks is introducing a significant addition to its range of electric tractor units: a 6×2 with a small trailing axle, which increases the range and the maximum load capacity of the fifth wheel. These E-Tech T 585 and E-Tech T 780 feature battery packs of 585 and 780 kWh respectively and are suitable for towing (medium-)heavy semi-trailers over long distances, with zero emissions. The range on a single battery charge is a maximum of 460 and 600 km respectively.
With the T585, Renault Trucks serves transport operators who require maximum payload capacity; the T780 has slightly less payload capacity (due to more batteries) but offers a greater range. Exact payload capacities depend on the truck configuration. Renault’s chosen solution is quite spectacular: these trucks do not have the drive motor located under the cab, but integrated into the second axle (E-Axle). The 4.5-ton liftable/steerable trailing axle is also a unique feature: this type of axle is usually used as a leading axle.
The arrival of these Renault tractor units is, however, no surprise: parent company Volvo Group already offers this special configuration on the Volvo FH Electric. The underlying technology of Volvo and Renault is virtually identical. However, the Renault is assembled in France while the Volvo is built in Sweden.
The battery packs in the Renault T 585 / 780 are NCA lithium-ion batteries (Nickel, Cobalt, Aluminium) with high energy density and an L-shaped configuration. Renault Trucks guarantees performance for up to 8 years or 1 million kilometers. Thanks to compatibility with the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) of up to 720 kW, both models can add up to 350 km of range during a 45-minute rest stop. Charging via CCS up to 350 kW also remains possible.
The Renault Trucks E-Tech T 585 and T 780 6×2 feature full air suspension as standard and a lightweight, steerable, and liftable trailing axle, which increases maneuverability and reduces tire wear. The E-Tech T 585 offers a payload of up to 28 tonnes (depending on local legislation).
To integrate electrification into business operations, Renault Trucks offers a package of supporting services:
– Optifleet for real-time planning, monitoring, and analysis
– Serenity Pack for guidance during implementation
– Driver App for remote charging status and vehicle preparation
– E-Tech Program: advice and simulations for routes, energy supply, and CO₂ reduction
– various financing options and assistance with subsidy applications
