Renault Trucks — DE13 R diesel engine — power 400 / 440 / 480 / 520 / 540 hp

Renault Trucks — DE13 R diesel engine — up to 4% lower fuel consumption. Renault Trucks T – T High – C – K – model year 2027, power output 400 / 440 / 480 / 520 / 540 hp.

Renault Trucks is renewing the powertrains for the T, T High, C, and K series for 2027. With this new DE13 R diesel engine, updated Optidriver transmissions, and predictive driving technology, fuel consumption drops by up to 4% compared to the previous generation. Furthermore, the new powertrain is suitable for renewable fuels, such as HVO and B100.

The DE13 R replaces the existing engines (DE 13 TC, DE 13, and DE 11). Consequently, the eleven-liter engine will not return to the large Renault trucks. Renault Trucks is also leaving the Turbo Compound principle, introduced in early 2023, behind once again, just like Volvo Trucks. The DE13 R is the same engine as the new Volvo D13. The Volvo Group gas engine is not supplied in Renault Trucks. Those wishing to drive CNG, LNG, or H2 (combustion) can turn to sister company Volvo Trucks.

Variants
The Renault Trucks DE13 R thirteen-liter engine is available with a power/torque of 400 hp / 2300 Nm, 440 hp / 2500 Nm, 480 hp / 2650 Nm, 520 hp / 2750 Nm, or 540 hp / 2800 Nm. New materials were used in its development, including grey cast iron and compact graphite iron, with the aim of increasing durability and reliability. In addition, the engine incorporates various improvements that increase efficiency. The maximum cylinder pressure is now 250 bar, while a new fuel delivery system with an external high-pressure pump ensures more precise injection and more efficient combustion. The DE13 R is equipped as standard with Optibrake+, a more powerful engine brake that improves vehicle control and driving comfort, especially on hilly routes.

Optidriver
The engine is combined with a new generation of automatic Optidriver transmissions. Thanks to updated control software and optimized shifting strategies, gear changes occur up to 20% faster than with the previous generation.

Furthermore,
The powertrain also includes various technologies that further limit fuel consumption:

– Optivision+, a predictive cruise control that uses topographical data and traffic information to automatically optimize speed, acceleration, and gear changes.

– Predictive Engine Stop Start, coupled with Optivision+, which temporarily switches off the engine automatically during coasting (Optiroll) while essential vehicle functions remain active. – Additional aerodynamic optimizations

Smart Racer
For maximum efficiency and productivity, Renault Trucks offers the Smart Racer version, which combines all energy-saving features: improved aerodynamics, Optivision+, low rolling resistance tires, and advanced predictive powertrain control.

The DE13 R engine meets the NNR3 noise reduction standard, resulting in lower noise levels for the driver and the environment.

Furthermore, Renault Trucks are equipped with technology that makes daily driving more pleasant, such as Smart Steering. This system increases driving stability and supports the driver with various Driver Assist functions, including automatic lane keeping and adjusting the following distance.
