Ferry semi-trailer, highly insulated semi-trailer with refrigeration unit and special modifications for the transport of seafood. Kässbohrer has supplied 75 of these Ferry Reefer semi-trailers to Smyril Line, the shipping and forwarding company active in Northwest Europe with various types of transport. Smyril had already been using this type of trailer for the past five years and was so enthusiastic about it that they placed a large order.
The Kässbohrer K.SRI Ferry Reefers ensure stable and reliable temperature control thanks to first-class insulation with a K-value of 0.31 W/m²K and an advanced air circulation system. The proven robust floor, suitable for forklift axle loads of up to 7.2 tonnes, enables intensive loading and unloading operations during port and terminal handling. For securing to the boat, these trailers are equipped with ferry eyes all around.
To meet Smyril Line’s specific requirements regarding seafood transport, the supplied Ferry Reefers are equipped with hygiene-oriented features, including integrated fish water reservoirs and a rear fish water discharge. These features guarantee hygienic operation, compliance with local regulations, and efficient liquid waste disposal during daily transport cycles.
The opening front wall facilitates the installation of the cooling unit inside the vehicle and provides easy access for cleaning this section, ensuring high hygiene standards. Together, these features ensure consistent cold chain performance, durability during frequent crossings and port operations, and reliable operation under low temperatures and high humidity.
