Following the XF, the DAF XG and XG+ models are now also available as electric trucks. The XG+ features DAF’s largest cab and is a favorite among drivers in international transport.
The photo shows the brand-new DAF XG+ 350e FT belonging to Weerepas Speciaal Transport from Cuijk (Netherlands), a company that has purchased two of these tractor units. Weerepas opted for the 350 kW version of the PACCAR EX-D2 electric powertrain; customers can also choose 270 kW or 310 kW variants. The EX-D2 is paired with a PowerShift automated transmission.
A notable feature of the truck in the photo is its traditional mirrors, rather than the camera-based mirror systems that have become standard these days. However, it does include the electronic blind-spot mirror system (DAF Corner View).
The Weerepas electric tractor weighs 11,170 kg (three tonnes heavier than a diesel equivalent) and has a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 20,500 kg, thanks to its nine-tonne front axle. This results in a fifth-wheel load capacity of 9,330 kg. The truck is equipped with a sliding fifth wheel and is approved for use as an LZV (Longer Heavier Vehicle) tractor with a maximum gross combination weight of 50 tonnes. DAF rates the range at “over 500 km,” though Weerepas reports having already achieved 600 km. The wheelbase is 390 cm, and the total length of the truck is 642 cm.
